Saints sign two more draft picks

METAIRIE – The New Orleans Saints announced Monday the signing of their fifth- and seventh-round picks in this year’s draft — cornerback Corey White and tackle Marcel Jones — to four-year contracts.

The Saints now have three of the five players they chose in the April draft under contract as defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, their top pick in the third round, signed Thursday.

White, a 6-foot-1, 205-pounder, was the Saints’ fifth-round selection. The former Samford University standout, a two-year starter, was the 162nd pick of the draft after finishing his career with seven interceptions. He also broke up 18 passes and forced four fumbles.

Jones came to the Saints in the seventh round with the 234th pick. A 6-5, 320-pounder from Nebraska, he made 21 starts at right tackle in 40 career games despite missing the 2010 season with a back injury.

The signing of White and Jones means the Saints have only two unsigned draft picks — wide receiver Nick Toon, who was chosen in the fourth round, and guard Andrew Tiller, who was taken in the sixth round.
