Drew Brees contract squabble continues….

It’s Friday the 13th, and the question has to be asked: “Do you know where your quarterback is?”

The answer to that question for the New Orleans Saints is easy: “Drew Brees is not somewhere where he can sign a contract to play in 2012 or beyond.”

The contract negotiations between Brees and the Saints are running out of time before Monday’s deadline when he must sign a franchise tag tender.

The only thing of value Drew Brees has received this summer is an ESPY Award.

Some reports have the sides $10 million apart based on guaranteed money. Some reports say Brees is prepared not to come to camp if he doesn’t get a long-term deal. And most NFL insiders are confident that there is no way the sides can’t come to some kind of agreement before the deadline.

Regardless of what report or reporter you believe, only one thing is certain: Time is running out.

And for a quarterback who has meant as much to a city (New Orleans) and a team (the Saints) as Brees had, this is a situation no one could have wanted or expected.
