Saints right tackle Zach Strief, who injured his groin in Monday night’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles, traveled to Philadelphia on Friday to be examined by a sports hernia specialist.
Saints interim coach Joe Vitt said at midday he didn’t know if Strief had a sports hernia or a groin problem and would know more when Strief returned to New Orleans later in the afternoon.
Strief won’t play in Sunday’s game with the Atlanta Falcons in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and will be replaced in the lineup by third-year pro Charles Brown.
Strief is one of four players who were ruled out of Sunday’s game by Vitt on Friday. Also out are running back Darren Sproles (fractured hand), defensive end Junior Galette (ankle) and wide receiver Courtney Roby (shoulder).
The only Falcons’ player of note that will miss the game is starting outside linebacker Sean Weatherspoon (ankle). He will be sidelined for a second straight week.
Here is the final injury report turned in to the league office by Vitt and Falcons coach Mike Smith on Friday:
