NEW ORLEANS — For the second time in three weeks, Saints strongside linebacker Scott Shanle is a healthy inactive for Sunday’s game with the unbeaten Atlanta Falcons in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Like in the game with Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos on Oct. 28, Shanle will sit out because the Saints are expected to be in the nickel and dime packages much of the time against the Falcons.
Saints interim coach Joe Vitt said after the Broncos’ game that the defensive coaches wanted to play matchups, which requires the use of two linebackers — Curtis Lofton and Jonathan Vilma — when they go to the nickel and dime.
In addition to Shanle, the Saints inactives were RB Darren Sproles (hand), T Zach Strief (groin), DE Junior Galette (ankle), WR Courtney Roby (shoulder), CB Elbert Mack and DT Tyrunn Walker.
The Falcons’ inactives are LB Sean Weatherspoon (ankle), WR Kevin Cone (groin), S Charles Mitchell (calf), T Lamar Holmes, DT Travarian Robertson, G Phillipkeith Manley, and QB Dominique Davis.
