The Saints filled out their eight-man practice squad on Monday by signing outside linebacker Rufus Johnson and offensive tackle Senio Kelemete.
The Saints selected the 6-foot-5, 272-pound Johnson out of Tarleton State in the sixth round of this year’s draft, but waived him on Saturday when they trimmed their roster to the regular-season limit of 53 players.
Kelemete, a fifth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2012, was also waived Saturday when the Cardinals set their active roster.
The Saints on Sunday signed quarterback Ryan Griffin, wide receiver Saalim Hakim, tight end Michael Higgins, fullback Austin Johnson, tackle Marcel Jones and cornerback Jumal Rolle to the practice squad.
Johnson on Monday said his addition to the practice squad occurred later than his teammates’ did because he went home to visit his girlfriend, who is expecting, and couldn’t immediately sign the contract.
“I look at (being on the practice squad) as a blessing, an opportunity to get better because I’ve got some stuff I can improve on,” he said.
