Saints outside linebacker Martez Wilson is a surprise inactive for the team’s season-opening game with the Atlanta Falcons in the Superdome.
Wilson dislocated his left elbow in the fourth training camp practice on July 29, but returned to practice prior to the Saints’ third preseason game with the Houston Texans on Aug. 25.
Wilson was held out of the final two exhibition games, but was expected to start at outside linebacker after the Saints lost both projected starters in Will Smith and Victor Butler to knee injuries.
After having full participation in practice for three straight days, Saints coach Sean Payton on Friday listed Wilson as probable for the game.
The Saints’ other inactives are S Isa Abdul-Quddus (ankle), DE Glenn Foster (ankle), WR Robert Meachem, WR Andy Tanner, T Terron Armstead, and RB Khiry Robinson.
The Falcons’ inactives are CB Asante Samuel (thigh), RB Josh Vaughan, S Kemal Ishmael, T Jeremy Trueblood, G Harland Gunn, DT Travian Robertson, and DT Stanley Maponga.
