NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The LSU Lady Tigers played like Cardiac Cats tonight.
Adrienne Webb nailed the game-winning 3-pointer with 8.7 seconds to go, and LaSondra Barrett blocked C’eira Ricketts drive in the lane as time ran down as LSU beat Arkansas 41-40 Friday in the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament quarterfinals.
LSU (21-9) now faces regular-season champion Kentucky (25-5) in Saturday’s first semifinal at 3 p.m. on ESPNU. The Lady Tigers upset Kentucky 61-51 on Super Bowl Sunday.
LSU trailed 40-33 with two minutes remaining before mounting a furious comeback with a closing 8-0 rally. Webb hit a pair of 3-pointers, sandwiched around a drive to the basket by Jeanne Kenney to cut the deficit to 40-38 with 40.6 seconds to go.
“I’m used to hitting 3-pointers,” Webb said. “But there was nothing bigger than this 3-pointer.”
The Lady Tigers advance to the SEC semifinals for the first time since 2009.
