LSU’s Hamilton to work out for Hornets

Former LSU center Justin Hamilton

Former LSU center Justin Hamilton finishes a series of NBA auditions Wednesday with a workout for the New Orleans Hornets, about 80 miles down the road from where he finished his college career.

Hamilton, who left LSU a year early, worked out for the Utah Jazz last week.

The Hornets own the 46th pick in the second round of Thursday night’s draft after picking first and 10th overall. They are expected to host a number of players Wednesday in their last chance to scout prospects before the draft.

“I’ve done extremely well in all the workouts. I’ve changed my body type a lot. I feel like I’ve put myself in a great situation,” Hamilton said. “To me, this is just one step in the process. No matter if I get drafted or go undrafted, I know I’m going to be able to get on a (NBA) summer-league team and prove my way onto a roster.”

In the mock draft he updated Monday, Chad Ford of ESPN had Hamilton going to the Boston Celtics with the 51st pick in the second round.

Hamilton averaged 12.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks for LSU last season, helping the Tigers rebound from consecutive 20-loss seasons with an NIT berth. He spent his first two college seasons at Iowa State.
