The LSU men’s basketball team opens the Johnny Jones era with a schedule that includes 13 games against schools that last year reached postseason play.
The schedule was finalized Friday as the Southeastern Conference announced the league schedule for each of its 14 members. The league schedule includes 18 games with every team meeting five teams twice and the other eight once.
“We are excited about the schedule that we have for this year,” Jones said in a university news release. “I am familiar with having 18 conference games in the SEC from my days as a player and assistant coach here at LSU. Our non-conference schedule, which features games at Marquette and Boise State and a home game against Seton Hall in the SEC/Big East Challenge, will hopefully help prepare us for the SEC schedule.”
Jones enters his first season at LSU after leaving North Texas in April to become the head man at his alma mater.
In conference play, the Tigers have home-and-home games with designated natural rival Texas A&M, as well as Alabama, Missouri, Mississippi State and South Carolina. The latter five home-and-homes are part of the SEC slate on a rotating basis.
The non-conference action includes a Nov. 24 home game against Seton Hall in the annual SEC/Big East Challenge. LSU was one of the SEC’s winners in the event last year, beating Rutgers on the road.
Other non-conference highlights come at Boise State and at Marquette in December rematches from last year.
LSU opens Nov. 9 against UC Santa Barbara at home.
