HOOVER, Ala. — Chris Stratton and two relievers held LSU to just five hits as seventh-seeded Mississippi State defeated top-seeded LSU 3-2 in the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament Wednesday afternoon at Regions Park.
The Tigers will play Ole Miss in an elimination game at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Kevin Gausman (9-1) will start for LSU.
After Mason Katz’s two-run single pulled the Tigers even in the bottom of the fifth, the Bulldogs scored the tie-breaking run in the sixth when Demarcus Henderson singled home Mitch Slauter against Joe Broussard (4-1), the fourth of seven LSU pitchers.
Stratton (11-1) gave up five hits and two runs in six innings, Caleb Reed pitched two perfect innings and Jonathan Holder pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save.
