Three LSU juniors were named to Baseball America’s preseason All-America teams Friday.
Second baseman JaCoby Jones was selected to the first team, right-hander Ryan Eades was named to the second team, and catcher Ty Ross made the third team.
Jones, who’s from Richton, Miss., is LSU’s starter at second base for the third straight season. He hit .253 last season with 13 doubles, one triple, four homers and 29 RBI, and he led the Tigers with 11 steals. Jones was named SEC Player of the Week last May after helping lead LSU to a series win at Ole Miss.
Eades, a starter from Slidell, La., enters his third straight season as a member of the starting rotation. He is 9-4 in two seasons with a 4.14 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 137 innings. Eades was the Cape Cod Pitcher of the Year in the summer of 2011, and he was named SEC Pitcher of the Week in April 2012 after limiting Alabama to two hits in a 7.1-inning outing. Eades was also voted by the league coaches to the 2012 SEC All-Defensive Team.
Ross, who’s from Naples, Fla. is entering his third season as LSU’s starting catcher. Last season he batted .292 with six doubles, one triple, three homers and 41 RBI. A member of the 2012 SEC Academic Honor Roll and the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team, Ross threw out 16 runners attempting to steal last season.
