Hunter Newman’s season is in doubt.

Also, freshman pitcher Christian Pelaez remains in doubt to pitch this season and will have a CAT scan on a shoulder injury that stretches back to his days in high school.

Newman, expected to compete for a starting spot this year, began feeling soreness in his throwing shoulder the week before preseason practice began.

He was removed from the starting battle and replaced by junior college transfer Kyle Bouman.

Whitty, a right-handed pitcher out of Easton, Mass., injured his knee early in preseason practice while fielding ground balls. He tweeted Wednesday night that he’ll undergo surgery Thursday.

Pelaez will likely redshirt this season. The Miami native was expected to have began rehabilitation last month. He’ll have a CAT scan soon, Mainieri said.
