What’s At Stake

  • Here’s an easy one – a series win on the road against a consensus top-10 team. With LSU winning Friday’s matchup, the Tigers need to split today’s DH to take the series.

What To Watch

Kyle Bouman gets his first big start Saturday.

Kyle Bouman gets his first big start Saturday.

  • Bouman’s big debut: Kyle Bouman may as well be a true freshman. He’ll be starting in the biggest game of his life. A junior college transfer from Missouri, Bouman has OK stuff, but it’s not likely better than that of Jared Miller. LSU’s defense needs to make some highlight reel plays behind him to keep things in check.
  • LSU’s D: See above. Bouman throws strikes. And not the kind that Aaron Nola throws. His are of the 88-90 mph variety. Not the 94. He gets hit and LSU’s defense will need to make plays.
  • Poche gets his turn: In Game 2, true freshman Jared Poche takes the mound. It’s a pressure-packed game for the young guy from Lutcher. How will he handle it? The series might be on the line in the second game of the day and with him on the mound.

Know Your Opponent

  • Vandy’s bats got to Aaron Nola in the first two innings Friday night, but then he quieted them. It’s unlikely Poche and Bouman will have the success he had. Vandy has some crafty base runners. They like to steal and do it well. Meanwhile, they have a pair of pitchers starting today’s game who have allowed five earned runs in 48.2 innings.
