Bill drivers’ licenses bill wins final legislative passage

Driver’s licenses in the future would carry a code identifying the motorist as holders of lifetime hunting and fishing licenses under a bill that gained final legislative passage Thursday.

The Louisiana House voted 84-0 for the legislation, shipping it to the governor’s desk.

Senate Bill 224 would require the state Office of Motor Vehicles to start offering the special code July 1, 2013. It would be up to the motorist whether they want their license to carry it.

State Rep. Stephen Pugh, R-Ponchatoula, said people won’t have to carry their lifetime hunting and fishing licenses around with them in the future. The driver’s license will suffice, he said.
