UL System head retires

University of Louisiana System President Randy Moffett announced Monday afternoon his plan to retire in the fall after more than 40 years in higher education.
For the past four years, Moffett, 65, was chief of the system that oversees the colleges and universities across the state, such as University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the University of New Orleans.
“It has been a privilege to serve the people of Louisiana and higher education,” he said in a statement. “Over the course of my career I have had opportunities to take positions out of this state, but my heart has always kept me in Louisiana.”
The Jonesboro native took over as UL System president in July 2008. Moffett previously worked as president of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.
