Zach Dasher, who has a “Duck Dynasty” family connection, has jumped into the 5th Congressional District race.
The Calhoun businessman is a Republican. His mother is the sister of “Duck Commander” Phil Robertson of A&E television fame.
“It is time for ordinary citizens to get off of the sidelines and get involved in the political system,” Dasher said in a news release. “For too long, we’ve set idly by while Washington politicians slowly gain control over every aspect of our lives. I am seeking to represent the people of the 5th Congressional District in Congress so that I can effectively fight the big government intellectual elitists in Washington.”
Dasher has worked in the pharmaceutical indistry as well as in the real estate business. He has also been involved in fundraising for non-profit organizations.
Dasher stressed his family – he is married with four children – and faith in the news release.
“Man is made in the image of the Almighty God. If we are afraid to say that, then we don’t have a case for liberty. Our rights do not come from a bunch of elite politicians in Washington, D.C. They come from the Almighty God,” Dasher said.
Dasher is running for the congressional seat Vance McAllister won in a special election earlier this year. T he Swartz Republican was later caught on a security camera kissing one of his aides — a friend’s wife — in a darkened office area. His just launched congressional career stumbled.
McAllister ran as a Christian conservative and a political outsider. He rode the endorsements of “Duck Dynasty” stars Phil and Willie Robertson to surge out of obscurity and into a seat in Congress.
