- A day before the NFL Draft begins, former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger is making headlines for a second time this week. NFL teams have flagged the QB over a back condition called spondylolysis, reports NFL.com. LSU trainer Jack Marucci told NFL reporter Ian Rapoport the problem was a non-issue throughout Mettenberger’s senior season at LSU.
Did it flare up in his career? Yes. We would treat it and he’d be fine. It wasn’t something we thought was a chronic disc or something. He doesn’t need surgery. There’s no surgery for it. He’s worked with our doctors. This shouldn’t be a big deal as long as you treat it, we did some core stabilization. His senior year, we didn’t even talk about it.
- Earlier this week, reports leaked that Mettenberger’s drug test at the NFL combine was flagged. The sample was diluted because Mettenberger had too much water in his urine, a result of advice from his trainer to stave off dehydration, his agent told The Advocate on Monday.
