Dungy headlines clinic

Super Bowl-winning coach and current NBC football analyst Tony Dungy will be the headline speaker at the LSU Football Coaches Clinic March 22-24 at LSU.

Dungy retired after the 2008 and is now an analyst on NBC’s Football Night in America. He had a 139-69 record in 13 seasons as an NFL head coach, six with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and seven with the Indianapolis Colts.

He led the Colts to a Super Bowl championship 2007 and led 10 of his 13 teams to at least 10 wins.

“It’s an honor for us to welcome Coach Dungy to LSU for our annual coaching clinic,” LSU coach Les Miles said in a news release. “Coach Dungy is truly one of the greats in the game. His accomplishments and contributions to the game of football are remarkable. He’s a true gentleman and someone that I have admired for a very long time.”

In 13 years as an NFL head coach, Dungy led his teams to 10 or more regular season victories 10 times, including a 14-2 mark in 2005 with the Colts.

Dungy will speak to a group of coaches at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 23 at LSU’s Football Operations building.

LSU also moved its Pro Day to 11 a.m., Thursday, March 22, during the clinic.More than 100 NFL coaches and front office personel will be on hand.

Registration for the clinic starts at 10:30 a.m. on March 22 on the west side entrance of the LSU Indoor Football Facility. Following Pro Day activities, the clinic participants will get to watch the Tigers practice at 3:30 p.m. followed by a barbeque social at 6. Miles will welcome the group at 7 followed by breakout sessions with the LSU position coaches at 7:15.

The clinic resumes on Friday, March 23 at 9:30 a.m. when LSU strength coach Tommy Moffitt presents to the group of coaches. Following two hours of breakout sessions, lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. followed by Dungy’s presentation at 1:30 p.m. A third breakout session will take place at 2:45 p.m. followed by presentations from new LSU wide receiver coach Adam Henry at 3:45 p.m. and LSU defensive line coach Brick Haley at 4:45 p.m.

The clinic concludes on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the coaches will get to see the Tigers scrimmage in Tiger Stadium.
