Some LSU fans adopt an “us against the world” mentality, but according to a recent poll by ESPN, LSU ranks as one of the nation’s top 10 favorite football programs.
According to the poll, 158.6 million Americans ages 12 and over consider themselves college football fans. Among them, LSU ranks as the eighth-most popular program behind Ohio State, Notre Dame (yes, the Irish are still up there), Penn State, Alabama, Florida, Texas and Michigan. USC and Wisconsin round out the top 10.
Among avid college football fans (61.3 million) LSU ranks slightly higher. The Tigers come in at No. 6 behind Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame and Michigan. LSU is followed by Texas, Oregon, Penn State and USC.
The survey was conducted between July 2011-June 2012.
