Former LSU star defensive back LaRon Landry says he tried unsuccessfully to reach out to Tyrann Mathieu prior to Mathieu being dismissed from the Tigers team last week.
Landry, now with the NFL’s New York Jets, said in an interview at his team’s training camp that several people around the LSU program asked that he reach out to Mathieu for reasons Landry didn’t reveal.
Mathieu was on his way to following in Landry’s footsteps by becoming a Tiger standout on his way to an NFL career, but now Mathieu’s football future is in limbo. He was kicked off the LSU team last Friday for violating team and university policy.
Landry said a series of text messages he sent to Mathieu did not draw any replies.
