According to sources and multiple media reports, former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu has approached the school about the possibility of returning to the team in 2013.
Discussions are ongoing, but the matter remains unresolved, sources said.
There is no possibility Mathieu would be allowed to return to the team this season.
Mathieu was dismissed from the team Friday for reportedly failing multiple drug tests. Though no longer on scholarship, the possibility still exists that Mathieu could attend LSU by paying his own way through school.
After his suspension, Mathieu visited McNeese State to discuss the possibility of him transferring there and playing this fall. Mathieu would be allowed to attend a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) school and play immediately if he were to chose that option.
Mathieu visited the Lake Charles school but left there without having made a decision.
According to ESPN, Mathieu has also considered Jackson State and Prairie View.
